WELCOME TO SØRFOND-FORUM 2011

Oslo Films from the South Festival is hosting the first edition of The Sørfond Forum 2011. The festival have since 1991 presented films and filmmakers from Asia, Africa, The Middle East and Latin-America for Norwegian audiences and industry. With the 2011 launch of SØRFOND; financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in co-operation with The Ministry of Culture, and administered by The Norwegian Film Institute - the festival have significantly increased its position as an important meetingplace between the filmindustry in the South and in Norway.

Sørfond forum 2011 is a 2-day act; the first day adressing new digital possibilities - scrutinized by Norwegian helmers Erik Hoftun from Snowcastle and Eirik Solheim from NRK Beta. Talking finance of films from the south, we are priviledged to have assembled a panel of representatives from other relevant South Film funds - counting Fonds Süd Cinema from France, Hubert Bals Fund from the Netherlands, World Cinema Fund from Germany and Dubai Film Connection - to discuss challenges and opportunities in World Cinema financing. Closing the first day deal - former member of Fonds Sud comission and current Director of the International Film Festival of Amiens; Jean Pierre Garcia - will make some final reflections on the state and movements of the World Cinema art as of today. At our Junior Suite at Thon Hotel Panorama: tapas, drinks and mingling will close the deal for the night.

Day 2 of the forum is completely dedicated to the presentation of 13 selected projects, to be pitched by international acclaimed producers and directors from the south.

Thursday 13th October:
-11:00-11:30: Registration
-11:30-12:30: Erik Hoftun, SnowCastle How possibilities in digital communication have developed, more and more requiring interactivity. Interactivity is now the essence of gaming and other media have a lot to learn from the gaming industry. Erik helps us through the possibilities for interaction in digital media, both off and online. Erik Hoftun has previously worked as a senior partner at Geelmuyden Kiise, the leading communication agency in Scandinavia. SnowCastle is a game development company and consulting firm Erik has helped building up.
-12:30-13:30: Eirik Solheim, NRK Beta How does the digital future look like? How can film be visible and find new markets? What is of possible use for the film industry? Is it possible to use new digital developments to your advantage and compete against Hollywood? Eirik Solheim is the editor of the website NRKbeta. He holds presentations on new media, communication and digital developments, both nationally and internationally. He writes about the web, new media, media centres, software, gadgets, mobile technology and much more.

-14:00-15:15: Funding films from the south: challenges and opportunities
The panel is composed of Jane Williams from Dubai Film Connection, Janneke Langelaan from the Hubert Bals Fund, Jacqueline Ada from Fonds Süd Cinéma, Isona Admetlla from the World Cinema Fund in Berlin, and Sørfond's Lasse Skagen. Kjetil Lismoen will moderate and open the coversation for questions from the audience.
