After her daughter's death, Rita returns to her childhood's African country to investigate the death of Yvone Kane, a former political activist and guerrilla fighter. There, she becomes embroiled in a journey into the atmospheric longing of a lost paradise. Rita discovers a country where progress is build above the ruins of a violent past, while meets her mother (Sara), still living in the old familiar house.

After the death of her daughter, Rita returns to Mozambique, the African country of her childhood to investigate a past mystery: the death of Yvone Kane, a former political activist and guerrilla fighter. In that country, where progress has been built on the ruins of a violent past, Rita reunites with her ageing mother, Sara, a tough, solitary woman who has lived there for many years. As Sara spends her last days trying to make sense of her past actions, Rita's search for the truth surrounding the death of Yvone gets her embroiled in a land scarred by its History and haunted by ghosts of war and evil. But every path she follows seems to lead her towards the revelation that redemption and forgetting are impossible.
