THE DREAM (IPHUPHO) tells the story of a conman who rips off a poor rural community. Sibiya is a teacher in the city, who quits his job when he meets the supposedly politically connected Zwane who promises that he will help to get some RDP projects off the ground in the land of his birth. Together they travel to Sibiya's village where they meet with the elders and local chief who, despite initial reservations, soon buy into Zwane's plans for the community and attempt to raise the money that he says they will need in order to kick start proceedings.
But Zwane's connections are criminal rather than political, and while he bides his time waiting for a fake passport to arrive so he can get out of the country, he pulls the wool over everyone's eyes, including the village chief. But will he get away with his ambitious plan?
THE DREAM is a charming fi lm that is a worthy addition to the local film canon.
